News from District Conference in Milano 2017

Some highlights from the District 59 Conference in Milano (24 – 26 November 2017):

SpeaktoMi was a great experience for us all

We were 11 Toastmasters of Basel in Milano which is an outstanding number for a club. You find different photos on our Facebook page to get an impression. Some of us were at a district conference for the first time and others like Sandra and Cindy have attended already many conferences.

There were 450 participants in Milano, a hundred more than planned and it was the largest district 59 conference so far.

The key note speaker Darren LaCroix, TM World champion of 2001, gave us some great insights and inspirations, how to master your speech to make it a masterpiece. The workshop on Sunday morning was excellent and maybe we will share some of our learnings in the next meetings.

The Gala Dinner was amazing in an old castle-like mansion called Villa Torreto with frescos on the walls and an impressive arched courtyard. The food served was delicious and the dancefloor at the party afterwards was crowded. Toastmasters really know how to party.

The winner of table topics and humorous speech comes from Rhetorik Club Bern: Melchior Glatthard. Some of you might know him from previous contests.

One special highlight were the awards on Sunday morning. Cindy Piccolo received her DTM medal on stage and we congratulate her for this achievement. We now have two distinguised Toastmasters in our club that we can be proud of: Sandra and Cindy.

Besides all this the cathedrale, called Duomo, was also one of our favourites especially the view from the rooftop.

It was an inspiring experience to meet all the toastmasters from other countries and to see the high quality of speeches at district level. If you would like to have this experience, too, then mark the date for the next

District Conference in Athens in your calendar: 25 – 27 May 2018
